Robinhood brings tokenized stocks onshore under SEC exemption
- Robinhood plans to bring tokenized stocks to US investors using a new SEC exemption.
- Over 70 percent of Robinhood's tokenized stock trading happens outside standard market hours.
- Round-the-clock trading is forcing market makers to bridge weekend price gaps.
Robinhood is bringing tokenized stock trading to American markets.
Following the Senate's defeat of the Clarity Act, the Securities and Exchange Commission issued a five-year innovation exemption framework. The rule establishes a regulatory sandbox for on-chain securities with volume caps and strict identity checks. On Bankless, Robinhood head of crypto Johann Kerbrat explained that the ruling provides the regulatory clearance needed to bring the company's offshore equity tokens to domestic retail investors.
Every tokenized stock on Robinhood is backed 1:1 with real equity purchased in real time. Despite corporate pushback on social media, Kerbrat noted that executives from public companies across 120 countries have directly inquired about tokenizing their shares. Robinhood is currently adding native shareholder voting rights and direct in-kind redemptions for institutional market makers.
"Continuous markets will swallow legacy trading schedules."

The shift to blockchain settlement is fundamentally disrupting how stock trading operates across time zones. More than 70 percent of Robinhood’s tokenized stock volume happens outside traditional exchange hours. Daily on-chain trading routinely reaches $500 million, surging above $1.2 billion during periods of market volatility.
Trading around the clock exposes structural flaws in traditional finance. Because legacy stock exchanges shut down on weekends, tokenized asset prices occasionally decouple from equity markets when news breaks or. Robinhood cannot mint new tokens while underlying markets are closed, leading to price spikes that only reconcile when traditional exchanges reopen morning.
Two days before Kerbrat detailed the SEC sandbox, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev appeared on Moonshots with Peter Diamandis to outline the company's broader push into digital ownership. Tenev argued that expanding asset access, whether through tokenized equities or government-backed child investment accounts, provides a durable hedge against economic displacement. Robinhood recently built the interface for federal Trump accounts in partnership with BNY Mellon, registering seven million accounts.

On-chain equity trading is steadily draining liquidity from traditional venues. As institutional market makers deepen liquidity pools on decentralized exchanges like Uniswap, off-hours pricing spreads are collapsing. The legacy stock exchange schedule is fast becoming an obsolete artifact of paper clearinghouses.
The weekend bell has stopped ringing.
