Max Tannahill decentralizes Dojo node directory after seizures
- Max Tannahill launched a decentralized node directory to keep Bitcoin privacy wallets online after server seizures.
- Volunteer public servers running across five continents now route user transactions around single law enforcement targets.
- Bit47 cryptographic signatures prevent rogue server hosts from tracking user transaction histories.
Law enforcement killed Samourai Wallet's central servers in seconds. That single seizure left thousands of mobile users unable to view balances or broadcast transactions overnight.
The outage exposed a structural flaw in self-custodial privacy infrastructure. Most mobile wallet users lack the dedicated hardware or technical skill to run a local full node. When corporate backends go offline under federal court orders, user access breaks instantly.
Max Tannahill launched Dojo Bay to eliminate that bottleneck. Speaking on Ungovernable Misfits on September 5, 2026, Tannahill detailed how the open-source directory links mobile wallets directly to independent public nodes operated by global volunteers.
Distributing backends across Mexico, Spain, and the UK splits law enforcement vectors. No single court order can take down twenty independent servers running across five continents.
Connecting to arbitrary public servers introduces fresh risks. Querying an untrusted backend leaks extended public keys, allowing malicious node operators to reconstruct a user's entire financial history.
To neutralize that threat, Tannahill re-architected Dojo Bay to enforce Bit47 cryptographic signatures on every listed server. Users cryptographically verify that pairing credentials match the operator's digital signature, rendering web host tampering instantly detectable.
The administrative setup bypasses legacy web infrastructure entirely. Operators log into the platform using Auth47 cryptographic challenges, while users can mirror the entire directory over Tor onion routing with a single terminal command.
Wallet applications like Sentinel are now integrating these signed directories to enable automated node switching. Centralized wallet backends are dead.
